Reducing SPAM e-mails Back to E-Mail

Millions of unsolicited and unwanted SPAM emails are sent everyday. So many consumers have complained about this issue that the United States government is considering legislature to create a Do Not SPAM Registry which would work much like the Federal Do Not Call Registry.  When and if legislature is passed, CURRENT Communications will provide notice about how to add your email address to any registry that is created.  In the meantime, the following steps will help considerably in ensuring that your new email address does not start receiving SPAM.

  1. Start by choosing an email address that includes both alphabetical and numeric characters.  For example home123@current.net is much less likely to get randomly generated SPAM than home@current.net.
  2. Do not use your primary email name in public places on the Internet.  With the CURRENT Broadband® service you can easily create up to 5 email addresses and you can create one email for any place your email might be publicly visible. If you are not sure whether a site makes email information public, look for a privacy statement on the site.  You should not provide your email address to any site that indicates that they will sell personal information to a third party.  If a site does not have a privacy statement and/or does not guarantee your privacy, do not provide your email address.
  3. DO NOT reply to SPAM emails, even to request that your email be removed from the SPAM list.  This has been shown to create additional SPAM not reduce it.
