Can I register for CURRENT Broadband® service?
CURRENT Communications has already introduced the service to limited geographic areas and will continue to add new areas. If you have received a marketing communication through the mail from us, CURRENT Broadband service is available in your neighborhood.

How does the CURRENT Broadband service work?
CURRENT Broadband service is delivered through a technology known as Broadband over Power Lines, or BPL. We install special equipment on the power lines near your home to make this service available. Once you have signed up for the service, we will send you a special power line modem. Connect the modem to your computer using a standard Ethernet cable we provide, and plug the modem into virtually any electrical outlet for access to the high-speed Internet connection.

Do I have to change any of the wiring in my home?
No. CURRENT Broadband service works with existing home wiring, from virtually any outlet.

Will the CURRENT Broadband service have any adverse impact on how my electric service works?
No, it does not adversely affect the flow of electricity in any way.

Will there be any impact on my utility bill?
No. CURRENT Broadband service does not increase the energy consumption in your home (other than the use of your power line modem and computer).

What happens if there is a power outage?
If there is a power outage, the modem and CURRENT Broadband service will work once your power is restored.

Will my computer work with the CURRENT Broadband service?
CURRENT Broadband service works with both Windows® and Macintosh® computers. Please check our minimum system requirements for more details. A standard Ethernet port is required on your computer for access

What do I do if my computer does not have an Ethernet port?
You have several options. You can purchase a Network Interface Card (NIC) at any computer supply store. This will require a physical installation of the card into your computer. Or you can purchase a USB-Ethernet adaptor which converts a USB port on your computer into an Ethernet port. We have USB-Ethernet adaptors in stock for purchase and delivery with your modem.

Can I use a router with my service?
Yes. Just connect your power line modem to the WAN/Internet port of your router.

Does this service support VPN use?
Yes. CURRENT Broadband service automatically interfaces with all Virtual Private Network (VPN) clients that support NAT Tranversal (NAT-T), which is the vast majority. If you experience any issues connecting to your VPN through CURRENT Broadband, check with your IT department to ensure your VPN client supports NAT Transversal and/or if a Fixed IP address is required. If a Fixed IP address is required, it can be purchased in addition to your monthly service plan or as part of the Home Office plan.

How do I turn on my power line modem?
There is no On/Off switch on the power line modem. The modem is turned on by plugging it into a working wall outlet. An LED on the front of the modem will light up to indicate that the modem has power.

What do I do if my modem is slow or is not allowing me access to the Internet?
Please make sure the modem is plugged directly into a power outlet, without any power strips or extension cords. If you are still experiencing problems, unplug the modem from the outlet for one minute and then plug it back in. If you continue to experience problems, please call customer support 1.877.7PLUGIN.

Can I combine the speed of a high speed connection and keep my AOL account?
Yes, you can have CURRENT Broadband high-speed Internet service and keep your AOL account. By using AOL's "Bring Your Own Access" (BYOA) plan, you can get our speed and continue to use your existing AOL account. Go to www.aol.com for plan details.
