Link Badges

Everyone seems to make a link badge. They can be somewhat cool, and even functional. However, they often suffer from the same problem: they look aweful.

That's not fair.

Some look good. Some look not so good. One thing I think that can be said is that they look inconsistent, at least across sites. For instnace, the Twitter and weather badges below do great work (providing current Twitter status or temperature, respectively), and look fine. However, put them next to each other, along with the other badges, and they start to look like a jumbled mess.

Bad enough when your web site is a jumbled mess. However, when you spend a lot of time creating a common look, toiling over a CSS, and create something that looks vaugely professional, it just kills all that hard work.

Some, which are roughly the same size and relativley neutral in color, can work. The Brilliant Button idea works well for that. However, 80x15 is not a lot of space to work. Also, they are fairly static (forget Twitter or Weather Underground).

As I look to other sites as link repositories, a seperate page seemed like a good idea. A badge galery if you will.

Enjoy!
